About Me - Usman Ayobami

Hello, I'm Usman Ayobami, a software engineer based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, and currently pursuing a Master's in Computer Science at Western Michigan University. With a background in petroleum engineering, I discovered my passion for computers and transitioned into the world of software development. I hold a BSc degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Ibadan.

In 2020, I kick-started my career as a software engineer at AfriLearn, an EdTech company focused on creating an online learning platform for secondary school students. During my time there, I gained valuable experience in developing and maintaining educational software products.

In 2022, I joined PanAfrica Capital (PAC) as a software engineer and had the opportunity to lead a team of talented software engineers and designers. At PAC, we were responsible for building and maintaining software products for various departments within the company, as well as for external clients.

Driven by my interest in machine learning and my belief in the potential of artificial intelligence, I am currently exploring and developing ML models. One of my ongoing projects involves building an ML model that extracts subscription data from emails, helping individuals eliminate unnecessary subscriptions that drain their finances.

Aside from my professional endeavors, I have a deep passion for music and enjoy immersing myself in its melodies during my leisure time.

Looking to the future, I aspire to get married to the love of my life and provide a nurturing environment for our children, filled with abundant opportunities. I am determined to build a unicorn company that not only succeeds financially but also contributes to making the world a better place.

I am actively involved in the tech community and have co-founded various ventures. While Ripples, an eCommerce platform for SMBs, didn't achieve significant sales, I co-founded Lodgeek, a property management software.

As a developer, I have contributed to the developer community by building GeoNG, an npm package that provides geographic data of Nigeria. This package enables developers to easily access information such as lists of states, LGAs, and sub-areas within Nigeria.

I am a lifelong learner and maintain a down-to-earth attitude. I firmly believe that there are no shortcuts to success; hard work and dedication are essential.
